Jackie was a member of the Cwmbran Baroque Singers from the choir's formation in 1971. She had a rich contralto voice and in her prime was a regular soloist. It helped that she was an accurate reader but I would often come home from school to hear her practising a tricky phrase repeatedly until it was secure.
There are three examples of her performing with the Cwmbran Baroque Singers which you can listen to by clicking the blue 'Jukebox' button below.
In the well known carol, Stille Nacht, Heilige Nacht Jackie usually had the first verse as a solo. Thomas Tomkins' Above the Stars was recorded at a Monmouth Diocesan Concert in 1983. Exultant Caeli (Monteverdi) was performed at the Cwmbran Baroque Singers' 1982 Christmas Concert which was broadcast by BBC Radio Wales. Sadly, the baritone soloist in this recording, Phillip Jones, who was a childhood friend of Jackie's from Blaenavon, died suddenly when only in his fifties.
